with Kathryn Wood, LPC-MHSP, CRC, MT-BC
Your brain feels like a hamster wheel…
Worst-case scenarios keep spinning. Your emotions feel outta control. Your body seems to be in a never-ending panic. You’re just… so… tired.
You’ve tried everything to get some peace—ignoring it, distracting yourself, even arguing with your own brain. And it works! But only for a little while - then the whole cycle starts up again, only worse. You find yourself searching for answers, maybe even typing "OCD therapy near me" into Google, wondering:
“Why isn’t _flashy wellness product, ‘life-changing’ med, or latest exercise craze_ working for me?”
“Why can’t I just shut down these scary, disturbing, panicky, frustrating experiences already?”
And the old faithful: “What’s WRONG with me?!”
Living with Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD) can feel like an incessant cycle of anxiety and exhaustion, but you don’t have to face it alone.
With high-quality online OCD Therapy anywhere
you might be in Tennessee,
you can unlock confidence & calm - for good.

Internal Family Systems (IFS) is a novel therapy that helps you understand the different “parts” of yourself, like little voices or feelings inside your mind. When it comes to OCD, these parts might be the anxious “worriers” or the perfectionist “controllers” driving compulsions and obsessions. IFS gently helps you get curious about these parts, learn why they’re trying to protect you, and create a compassionate relationship with them. This approach can be a game-changer, turning OCD from a battle into a teamwork project within your own mind!

Facing fears—embarrassment, germs, judgment, bugs, perfectionism, dirt, harm—and realizing, “I didn’t need to be afraid, after all!”
Entering social settings feeling confident and relaxed—without searching for an exit, clutching your phone, or counting down the time to leave.
Fully living in the moment, tuned into YOUR wants, needs, and dreams—not the distraction of anxious thoughts!

Yes, I can absolutely help you with your specific type of OCD! OCD can manifest in many different forms, and each individual’s experience is unique. Below is an overview of some common types of OCD that I support:
Pure-O OCD: This involves distressing intrusive thoughts or images with only mental compulsions such as rumination or self-reassurance. These thoughts often feel out of your control and can lead to significant distress.
Contamination OCD: If you struggle with intense fears about getting sick—whether it’s from something like COVID-19, HIV/AIDS, or cancer—this could be a form of contamination OCD. It often involves fears of germs, dirt, or bodily fluids.
Disgust (a.k.a. Cleanliness) OCD: This involves feeling disgusted by the idea of coming into contact with something “dirty” or unhygienic, which can lead to avoidance behaviors or compulsive cleaning.
Responsibility OCD: This form of OCD involves fears about contracting a disease and inadvertently passing it onto others. It can also involve a deep sense of responsibility for ensuring others’ well-being.
Somatic OCD: If you find yourself overly focused on bodily sensations—such as blinking, swallowing, or your heartbeat—this may be somatic OCD. It’s marked by hyperawareness of physical sensations and fear that they may be signs of a serious illness.
Harm OCD: This type of OCD revolves around fears of harming others, whether that be through physical violence, self-harm, or fears of having done harm in the past or will do so in the future. It can also include fears related to postpartum issues or harm caused while driving.
Relationship OCD: If you worry obsessively about being with the “right” person or that your partner may leave you, this is known as relationship OCD. It’s characterized by constant questioning of feelings of attraction, love, or whether you are with the right person.
Sexual Orientation OCD: This form of OCD involves obsessive concerns about one’s sexual identity, such as fears of being a different sexual orientation or transgender, often with significant distress.
Existential OCD: People with this type of OCD may obsess over philosophical questions, such as the meaning of life or the nature of reality. This can include fears of not understanding consciousness or worrying about being in a dream or alternate reality.
Scrupulosity (Religious OCD): This type of OCD is marked by fears of violating moral or religious rules and the consequences that may follow. Individuals may feel constant anxiety about sinning, immoral behavior, or fears about the afterlife.
Pedophilia OCD: If you experience intrusive thoughts or images related to children, but you’re deeply distressed by them and worry they may indicate a pedophilic attraction, this is known as pedophilia OCD. It’s important to note that these are obsessive thoughts, not desires.
“Just Right” OCD: This involves a need for things to feel “right” in terms of order, symmetry, or cleanliness. People may engage in behaviors until they feel “just right” or experience anxiety if something is out of place.
Racism OCD: If you experience intrusive fears about being racist, such as fearing you might say something inappropriate or offensive in public, this is a form of OCD that can cause significant distress.
Mental Illness OCD: This type of OCD is characterized by obsessive concerns about becoming severely mentally ill. It may include fears of developing conditions like schizophrenia or losing control of one’s mind, often confusing symptoms with hallucinations or delusions.
Perfectionism OCD: This type of OCD involves an overwhelming need for perfection in all aspects of life. It may lead to excessive micro-management of your day-to-day, avoiding any task or outlet that’s unfamiliar due to fear of doing it ‘imperfectly,’ or the need for everything to be in a totally perfect state to feel at ease.
Suicide & Self-Harm OCD: Individuals with this form of OCD experience intrusive, distressing thoughts about self-harm or suicide. These are not suicidal desires, but rather obsessive fears that one might harm oneself, even when there is no intention or desire to do so.
Pregnancy & Perinatal OCD: This form of OCD occurs during pregnancy or in the perinatal period (before or after childbirth). It often involves intrusive thoughts about the health and safety of the baby, fears of harming the baby, or obsessive concerns about being a good parent.
I understand how difficult it can be to deal with these intrusive thoughts and the compulsions that often accompany them. Together, we can explore effective treatment options tailored to your specific type of OCD, with an emphasis on reducing the impact these thoughts have on your life.

Therapy for OCD is a journey that’s unique to you. Most people start with weekly sessions focused on Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP) or Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) for about 12 to 20 sessions. But remember, everyone’s path is different—some may need a bit more time, especially if symptoms are more intense, have been around for a while, or have underlying roots in unaddressed traumas. That said, though, many clients notice significant improvements within a few months! Ongoing sessions can be helpful to keep that progress going and prevent any setbacks, until you decide you’re ready to fly solo on your recovery journey. I’ll be right there with you along the way, creating a plan that’s just right for your needs.
