Emboldened Therapy Tennessee:
Frequently Asked Questions
-
I specialize in supporting teens & adults facing anxiety, OCD, PTSD & Trauma, and related issues - like depression, grief, insomnia, self-esteem struggles, and body picking & pulling.
I use a variety of specialized therapies including EMDR, Exposure & Response Prevention, Habit Reversal Training, Internal family Systems, Cognitive Behavior Therapy for Insomnia, Dialectical Behavior Therapy, Acceptance Commitment Therapy, & music therapy. I've strengthened my therapy practice over 14+ years of clinical helping experience, and I'm excited to offer you a custom blend of therapy to best meet your needs - using a blend of all of the above, and then some!
I often hear from folks who want to know if I can help them, even if their concern isn't on my list of specialties. To that, I say enthusiastically - maybe!
Consultations are perfect for determining if I may be the right therapist for you. Sometimes it may seem like your concerns don’t fit within my wheelhouse, but after talking about it, they do! If we’re not a good fit to work together, l'll make sure to provide you some great therapist leads to best support you!
*Emboldened Therapy is firmly anti-racist, anti-sexist, & LGBTQIA-allied, and serves folks from all flavors & cultures of life. Hate is not tolerated in this therapy space!* -
We'll use a HIPAA-secure version of Zoom, which has a HOST of great features - like fun screen backgrounds, sound adjustment settings, and the ability to join by smartphone, iPad, computer, or laptop!
If you're unfamiliar with Zoom, check out this link to get started. It is completely free for you to download and use.
Before your 1st session, you'll receive a unique link that we'll use every time we meet, so you don't have to chase down a new meeting invite every time we meet. My goal is to make it as easy for you to use as possible! That link will also be sent in your weekly text & email reminders, so even if you lose track, you'll have multiple ways to access it.
So, to recap, you'll need:
An electronic device (with full charge, or a charging outlet nearby!) that has a working camera & sound
The Zoom app downloaded to your device
Optional: Earbuds, headphones, or other supportive listening devices - if that's your thing!
It also doesn't hurt to have a preferred non-alcoholic beverage nearby, or any other items that help you feel a little cozy & grounded.
Most folks find it best to spend 5-10 minutes playing around with the Zoom sound and video settings before their 1st session, even if it's a platform you've used often, to feel fully comfortable when the session starts.
Make sure you are located in a private, secure location that you feel completely comfortable sharing all the nitty-gritty of your story. For some folks, that might be ~car therapy~, an unused office at work or school, or even your home garden, if that feels best for you!
Of note - all sessions are for you, and you alone, unless we've discussed otherwise. So, if there's somebody you really want to have be involved, be sure to say so ahead of the appointment! We'll talk about what that will look like, and get some paperwork together to make sure they can legally be in your session. -
The first session is a way for me to learn about you and the reasons you came to therapy. Before this session, you'll fill out some forms in a secure client portal to help us both prepare. I’ll then go over your responses beforehand so we can dive right into what matters most – you!
Some questions I might ask you in that session could be:
What goals would you like to reach by going to therapy?
What do I need to know about you to understand your current challenges?
What's worked for you - in therapy, or in life - before? What hasn't worked?
You can ask me questions, too! This is your space, and you can use it any way you need to.
The most important part of a first session is that you see if you feel I’m a good fit for you. If you feel supported, seen, and at-ease with me, we can discuss if you’d like to meet again.

Therapy is an investment in yourself, not a quick fix. Meeting less than every other week can delay relief, and for therapies like EMDR and Exposure Response Prevention, weekly sessions are proven necessary for support and safety. With this in mind, I recommend regular weekly or bi-weekly appointments to ensure your therapeutic well-being. Most clients start with weekly sessions, but this is flexible - we’ll discuss what might be best for you in your consultation call!
-
I hold sessions from 3pm - 7pm EST // 2pm - 6pm CST weekly on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays.

I highly respect your privacy and value your trust. If you have specific questions about how confidentiality works, you can ask during your during a free consultation or anytime during our work together.
